The One Company Fund Story

Benchmark Assisted Living was founded in 1997 by Tom Grape, in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  Tom aspired to build and grow a values-based company that was all about its people and the culture.  Anyone who knows Tom well understands he is committed to Benchmark being "the best, not the biggest".  He defines the "best" by placing people first, including our associates, residents, families, and our communities.

Tom's vision has always been that anyone connected to Benchmark is part of the family and that the organization is "One Company".  Benchmark was built on Tom's vision and he created a management team and culture that would support his vision of a values-based, people culture.  Long before the One Company Fund was established in 2007, Tom Grape provided grants for many associates and their families during times of unpredictable and extreme hardship.  He simply did "the right thing to take care of people".

Since founding Benchmark Assisted Living in 1997, Tom's vision of creating a personal experience based on a set of shared values has once again raised the bar, by founding and developing the One Company Fund, Inc.

"When we celebrated our 10th anniversary as a company, we chose to acknowledge that milestone by thanking our front line associates who make our strong service reputation possible.  This is one way of saying thank you."
